Hello everyone!

Unfortunately, I’ve not been doing the best job keeping this blog up to date as best as I’d like to be, but the good news is that my efforts have been concentrated on the Planet Label Blog and its efforts. The problem is that some of the topics I discuss on the PL Blog are ones that I’d love to discuss and share on here. Seeing I don’t want to duplicate content, I’ll just post a few that I’ve worked on that would fit the general nature of this blog.

Furthermore, we re-designed the blog, added a more exciting header, and I did some re-work on the backend to make the blog more informative for analytics.  I’ll be writing a post on this VERY soon (I promise).  The whole experience with working for Planet Label has been awesome. I’m very glad that I will be extending my time with them through the school year.

Planet Label put aside, I recently finished my summer courses and am pleased with the free time I had. I celebrated by going down to Lollapalooza with my friend Kerry and seeing Depeche Mode.  Not only were we there early, but we were the first to Lollapalooza!  It was nice being part of the spotlight for a change as we were interviewed by ABC, FOX, and MTV, along with a radio station or two.  The experience was one of my best of this summer. I made some awesome friends along the way, too. icon biggrin August Updates

I’ve been putting a fair amount of time into my other major (Religious Studies) as well. I’m hoping that this upcoming semester will be like the last where I will be teaching my own little adjunct section of the Old Testament course we offer at UWSP.  The next time you visit this site, you’ll probably notice a few changes made to the navigation.  I plan on adding a section specifically geared at this course and the few others I assist with.

Oh, and by the way, that photo of Martin L. Gore is courtesy of Kerry Sandler. If you are interested in her photos, contact me and I will put you in contact with her.  The photos turned out amazing!  Here’s another for your viewing pleasure. icon smile August Updates

Where are you, Brett Widmann?

Things sure have been busy lately over here! Planet Label has been keeping me busy with numerous projects and tasks that I don’t get to write as often as I’d like to. I will say that the work is a lot of fun, but time consuming. For those of you unfamiliar with Planet Label… it’s a label and sticker manufacturing company that is headquartered in Wausau, WI. I’ve been hired to help them with social media and creating brand awareness online. Here are a few things I’ve been involved with the past few weeks…

Planet Label Blog

We recently abandoned our Blogger blog and installed a WordPress blog on a new domain and host. I was in charge of designing the template and now I currently write all of the content for the blog. I also produce video tutorials using Adobe Captivate. Content for the blog tries to focus on novice designers who create their own label designs for their products. The blog will soon have many articles related to using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign. My goal is to bring information about open source alternatives to the above mentioned software for designers who may not have access to more expensive programs.

One of my goals is to re-design the header image and make a few useful applications that the blog can offer to designers. I spent last week preparing one and it should be ready by the end of the month.

One of my first tasks on the job was to re-vamp Planet Label’s Facebook page. We’ve come a long way with it over the past month and have it where we want it to be so far. Now we just need a mass following! icon razz Where are you, Brett Widmann?

Planet Label on Twitter

One of my larger tasks was to create a gathering on Twitter for Planet Label. This has been very successful and the company is really enjoying their time on Twitter (well, I represent the company on Twitter) and I anticipate their presence only growing and becoming more successful as a result.

Other Projects

I’ve been involved on a few number of other projects for the company including Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for their main site, posting product images on Flickr to demonstrate the work they do, basic HTML editing, a re-design for a sister company, and documentation for art requirements and template design in Microsoft Word 2007. The job keeps me busy, but I enjoy it. I’ll keep you all posted as more things arise!
