This course is designed to further one’s knowledge of Jewish Scriptures. We will be studying additional aspects to the REL 303 course that the student should be currently enrolled in. I would like to incorporate a wide range of discussion in this course that includes elaborating and discussing additional topics and concepts related to readings in REL 303; sociological aspects before, during, and after the Babylonian Exile; Zoroastrianism; and introducing the students to the Biblical Hebrew language. This course is also a pass/fail course.
This course is also designed with the students in mind. If a student or students are struggling with a topic discussed in REL 303, we will focus more on those topics rather than additional content. I will ask at the beginning of each class if a student has a question about anything discussed in the lectures they have had with Professor Keefe. The main goal is to have an understanding of the initial material first before discussing additional and more complex topics. If there are no immediate questions, we will move on to discussing the content I have planned for the day.
Weekly Homework Assignments: 25%
Attendance: 50%
Biblical Hebrew Assignments: 25%
Attendance is a must in order for this adjunct course to thirve, however, I am aware that things do occur outside of the classroom. I require that you attend 10 out of the 14 weekly meetings. This means that every time you come to class that is 5% of your attendance grade you are fulfilling. Please try to make more than the minimum 10.
Assignments will be assigned weekly and are designed to show that you are participating with the additional content I present to you. I will not require anything over 1 ½ pages worth of writing. Not all assignments will be writing on a specific topic. I have designed interactive online lessons for your Hebrew Studies and will incorporate more hands on activities for these assignments.
